Wreaths Across America

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms Youth 18A team participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony and wreath laying earlier today.  The event was held at the Resurrection Cemetery in Wescosville, PA.  The Wreaths Across America program recognizes veterans during the Christmas season by placing wreaths on the graces of those who have served their country.  Today, groups across the country simultaneously placed wreaths at over 1,100 locations to honor and remember our veterans.  The program began in 1992 when a surplus of wreaths from the Worcester Wreath Company in Maine were sent to the Arlington National Cemetery in honor of our veterans.  This practice continued for over a decade when, in 2005 a picture of the gravestones adorned with wreaths went viral and the movement garnered national attention.  Since 1992, the mission to Remember the fallen, Honor those who serve, and Teach our children the value of freedom has prevailed.  “In life they honor our country, in death our country honors them”.

Member of the 18A team were invited to participate in this annual event.  The players, their coaches and some parents were all appreciative and thankful to participate in the ceremony and subsequent laying of the wreaths.  The boys were honored to be part of this event and represented the Lehigh Valley Phantoms Youth with pride, dignity and respect.
